Rally

Think of an AKC Rally® event as any team sport: You and your dog navigate a course, side-by-side, as you steer him through a course of 10-20 different signs. Each of these signs provides instructions regarding the next skill that is to be performed. The dog and handler move continuously throughout the course with the dog under control at the handler’s left side. There is a clear sense of teamwork between the dog and handler both during and between the numbered signs. Although each performance is timed, having a good race time is not the goal; it’s all about working as a team while performing the skills, with the dog under control.
Rally: You will develop the knowledge to perform the signs while teaching your dog the body awareness, spins, turns and sits. The dog should have completed at least puppy class, be about 6 months old, have some impulse control and know basic commands of sit, down and stay with a degree of consistency.
Competition Rally:: Once you have completed the Rally class or if you have previously titled dog in Rally, you may move onto the Competitive Rally Class. Learn advanced techniques for competition or fun, practice course maps and learn off leash skills needed for AKC Rally trials.
Prerequisite: Completion of S.T.A.R. Puppy or other obedience class and/or Puppy Dynamics or Instructor approval.
Recommended age: Over 6 months with some impulse control. A sit and down with walking on leash helpful. Older dogs welcome, a great retirement!!
Equipment Needed: Buckle collar, 6 ft. leash, training treats, a favorite toy, and a hungry dog.
